Still Life Exercise | My Watercolour Painting Videos |
Here is a photo I took of the still life setup we did on the last day of Term 1 2022.
It has been photoshopped because I took the photo up close and it had exaggerated lens curvature.
I should have taken the photo from several metres away and used the zoom function on the camera to zoom into the still life. This prevents the exaggerated perspective most of you would have noticed with the photos you took.
The Port bottle has a bit of a lean to it and if that worries you, just straighten it up in your drawing.
Remember, you can set up simple still life studies like this at home using ordinary things like a cutting board, knife, cheese, a wine bottle and a glass of wine. Other objects could be a group of similar vegetables the same size and/or colour
Or a doily with a few flowers in a vase and one lying on the table top. The possibilities are endless !!
Once you have something set up, move back a few metres and zoom in with your camera before taking the photo. If you have one, use a tripod to hold the camera steady, or rest it on something.
Who knows, one day, in a few hundred years they may find your still life painting and it could be worth $5 Million like the one recently discovered in a National Trust building in the Blue Mountains !
